According to Tom, at one point in time, he realised that he had become a slave of alcohol following which he decided to remain sober for one month; he later extended it to two months, six months, and eventually quit the evil. He said that after successfully being sober for six months, he realised the positive effects of it. Tom said,
And I just sort of said to myself, ‘Why am I so enslaved by this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?”
